CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Two brothers from Cortlandt Manor are on the road to Houston with a truck full of supplies for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Karl and Darrell Bjorkland, who own K & D Industries in Peekskill, a trucking company, began their trip to Texas Wednesday night after collecting donations outside of Wal-Mart at the Cortlandt Town Center.

"We were watching everything and wondered what we could do to help," Darrell, who was speaking from Maryland, said. "We're truckers. This is our way to help them. Our hearts bled for these people."

Darrell said they were able to put everything together in just a few days, receiving help from various companies, including Acadia Realty, who allowed them to collect outside the Cortlandt Town Center.

The brothers are bringing supplies like water, dog food, toiletries, clothing, cleaning products and diapers. They plan to drop them off at a Chevrolet dealership in Houston that will then distribute the supplies.

"We've never been to Texas, but we're looking forward to helping out," Darrell said. "It's a great feeling."

When Superstorm Sandy hit New York in 2012, the brothers also pitched in, teaming up with the Yorktown PBA to collect donations.

"We've seen what Sandy did, so we're prepared for it," Darrell said. "I'm sure it's a lot worse."

The Bjorklands said their hearts poured out for the people of Houston watching the coverage on the news.

"We're just a small trucking company, but I know every little bit will help," Darrell said.
