BALDWIN PLACE, N.Y. Owners of the Greek American Grill have heard all about tales of its buildings previous tenants, but Thomas Spyropoulos and his family are out to prove that the Route 6 restaurant is definitely not jinxed.
So many people come in say its jinxed, the placed is jinxed. If weve heard that once, weve heard it a million times, said Spyropoulos, whose brother Michael owns the restaurant. But we thought it was a good location.
In recent years, the building at 63 Route 6 across from the Somers Commons has been home to Franks Famous Franks, Pops Burger Joint and Fat Tylers.
This place has gone through so many different variations of food and variations of places, Spyropoulos said. Everyone comes in and has a story about I was here three times ago; I was here for Franks; I was here for this.
Greek American Grill took over the space in January. Spyropoulos said the summer season has slowed things down a bit, but he expects business to pick back up in the fall.
The Spyropoulos family previously owned the Executive Diner in Elmsford for 25 years before closing down. The family wanted to keep the diner feel when opening the new restaurant, but also wanted to expand by serving Greek food.
We thought there was a market for Greek food in the area, and its pretty much been borne out, Spyropoulos said. I mean, obviously you can get American food here as well. So thats why we threw in the American part, so that people knew they can go get a hamburger here if they wanted.
Greek American Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
