Cochinita Porky, usually at 1066 Long Island Ave., in Deer Park, is known for its unusual tacos and empanadas, with everything made fresh, using locally-sourced ingredients.
From what locals and Yelpers say, the business is owned by two sisters who rent space in a body shop lot. And the prices are great too with four tacos and a can of soda costing just $10.
Local Doug Gannon said he enjoys the Birria tacos and empanadas "as fresh as can be," and the place is a "must try."
Yelpers agree with a newbie from NYC saying: " I saw the reviews and immediately had to see for myself. I've tried the BBQ pork, Al pastor, beef, and chicken taco. I would definitely say Al pastor and chicken are my favorite tacos of theirs."
A local said they finally got to try the food in the "big pink truck and were happy with the outcome: "Everything is made fresh when you order and it shows. Excellent beef empanada. Also, outstanding was the chicken quesadilla. I also had the shrimp taco. My favorite was the empanada and the chicken quesadilla."
Another Yelper, who is also a local, said they pass the truck every day and finally stopped: "Nothing short of amazing, each taco was a different flavor explosion. From a different world compared to the other.
"My favorite was the al pastor with pineapple, pineapple bursting with a sweet flavor combining with the wonderfully seasoned al pastor. The red and green sauces provided with the tacos are UNBELIEVABLE like woooooooow, i need a bucket of both in my house."
The most commented topic on Yelp was how each item is made to order and nothing is sitting under a heat lamp. Oh, how nice the "sisters" are.
