Garrett (R) has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA), indicating a pro-gun rights voting record, they noted.

"It is clear that Garrett's intransigence on having any kind of common sense gun legislation has created a situation where terrorists can go out and easily get guns and kill innocent people," said Dwight Panozzo, a member of the Bergen County Coalition To Stop Gun Violence.

Garrett disagreed, telling Daily Voice in a statement that "we need to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists, criminals, and the mentally ill, and we need a plan to defeat ISIS and its radical ideology once and for all.”

The protestors included Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer and state Assemblyman Tim Eustace, as well as members of "Mom's Demand Action Against Gun Violence" and New Jersey Citizen Action.

Some waved signs outside the office park on Harristown Road and chanted "Hey-ho, Garrett's got to go."

The Second Amendment has been perverted to fit a political agenda, said Packer, adding that Congress' resistance to adopt "common sense" gun laws made "no sense."

"If we go with the argument that the second amendment guarantees every person the right to bear arms, what does that mean?" Packer told the crowd. "Should our neighbors be packing Uzis? Should our kids have grenades? I think most people agree that we have to draw the line somewhere."

Eustace added that the country needed a ban on assault weapons.

"These guns are designed for only one purpose and that is killing people," Eustace told the crowd. " It is time to stop holding vigils and praying for safety. It's time to stand up and say we need to stop this."
