“There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to give your family an excuse to spend the day playing on the beach,” Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino said in a press release.

Participants are encouraged to create not just castles but any type of sand sculpture or figure for the competition. All participants must bring their own shovels, pails and other building tools.

Registration for the competition is from 10-10:30 a.m. and the contest begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Judging begins at 3:30 p.m. and winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

The competition is open only to Westchester residents and proof of residency is required. Registration is $10 per entry and prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams. The rain date is Aug. 2.
