Under the proposed 2016 Westchester County budget, funding for the Nature Center would be cut by 100 percent, or $50,000, which would force the community center to “dramatically reduce programs and services.”

In an effort to maintain the popular services offered at the Greenburgh Nature Center, officials are asking the community to appeal to their local and county officials, laying out necessary steps that can be followed to apply more pressure.

The steps lay out instructions for emailing local legislators, complete with a form letter appealing to the politicians to “support a full appropriation of $50,000 for the Greenburgh Nature Center for 2016. The complete contact list can be found here.

“Greenburgh Nature Center has been a leader in environmental education for 40 years, providing innovative courses that teach individuals and families how to appreciate and support the environment,” the letter reads. “The facility presents special programs and events that serve a wide and varied audience and offers forever homes to over 100 injured or neglected animals.”
