She said she will also visit several museums and cultural sites and meet city officials in DangJin City, Seoul and Incheon, the site of a pivotal amphibious battle in September 1950 during the Korean War.

“This is a great opportunity for me and my administration to extend a hand of friendship on behalf of the people of Bergen County to officials of the Republic of Korea and for me to gain a greater understanding of the Korean culture and heritage at a time when the Korean population in Bergen County is growing and becoming an integral part of so many of our communities,” said Donovan.

Donovan plans to meet first with Chel-Hwan Lee, the mayor of DangJin-City, who was recently named one of the top 32 business and political leaders in Korea by Forbes Korea magazine. Lee was among those singled out for his achievements during the global economic recession.

She’ll also meet with Princess Lee and visit the Comfort Women Sharing House, dedicated to the Korean women who were taken by the Japanese to different countries across Asia and enslaved in horrendous conditions of forced sexual service to the Japanese military during the Asia-Pacific Wa.

“I am looking forward to creating stronger ties to the political and business leaders of Korea and learning more about the culture of this amazing  nation, which has endured for centuries through some incredibly trying times and is now a thriving world economic power” said Donovan.
