The Northeast Westchester Rotary Club, formerly the Katonah and Somers Rotary Clubs, will host the Gala Book Launch at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 8. The event supports student authors during an awards ceremony.
The Literacy Project is in its ninth year and brings together "the writings of diverse schools, suburban, rural, and inner city, into a professional book 'On My Mind'" published by the Northeast Westchester Rotary Club, according to the press release.
Linda Silbert has written the introduction for the 2014 edition, and will be the keynote speaker. She is a noted education specialist and writer who has co-authored more than 40 books which have sold more than 1 million copies, according to the release.
In past editions, the opening words have been written by: Peter Applebome, a columnist and editor at The New York Times; Earl G. Graves, the publisher of Black Enterprise magazine and named by Fortune Magazine as “one of the most powerful and influential African- Americans in Corporate America;” Jeff Pearlman, New York Times bestselling sports journalist; and Billy Collins, former poet laureate of the United States.
