Sign Up For Free Library Card In September At Somers Library

SOMERS, N.Y. --  September is library card sign-up month, a time when the Somers Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has a free library card.

Resources at the Somers Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement.

There are pre-school story time for babies through pre-school age. In addition, the library coordinates book clubs for grades K-12 which encourage reading and discussion. The library runs book buddy sessions and reading to therapy dogs. There are also opportunities to read a book at the storywalk at Reis Park. 

There are also programs on a variety of topics like writing your college application essay, practice PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests, and Stepping Back in Time. The library also offers a college and career section.  Students can also use their library cards from home. The library offers access to important educational resources through the library’s website. Resources include e-books, Tumble Books, e-reading room for kids and teens, a listing of sites through the Internet Public Library, Discovery Education’s Homework Help, Cybersleuth Kids site, Kid Info Homework Helper and more. Music and movies are also available through Freegal and Hoopla. “Our library provides a welcoming atmosphere to all types of students where they can explore, discover and create,” says library Director Pat Miller. “Students learn in a variety of ways, thanks to the resources available at the library. We can meet the needs of all ages and types of learners with a free library card.
