Somers Historical Society Puts Out Call For Gingerbread Entries

SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Historical Society is calling residents to participate in its Gingerbread Festival, featuring a gingerbread contest, on various dates in December.

Gingerbread houses must be completed and delivered to Wright Reis Homestead Sunday, Dec. 6, from noon to 12:30.

Entry details: 

Create a gingerbread decoration or house utilizing food materials, affix to a base no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches in size, include an elephant somewhere in the design.

The entry fee is a non-perishable food item for St. Luke's Episcopal Church Food Pantry.

Somers Library is lending a hand to the effort by offering a drop in elephant decorating day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. Gingerbread elephants, icing and decorations will be supplied.

The contest categories are adults, 18 and up, single entrants only; youth/teen, 11 to 17, singles or teams; children, 5 to 10, single or team.

The Gingerbread Festival will take place Sunday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Wright Reis Homestead, Route 139 and Sunderland Lane in Somers.
