SOMERS, N.Y. -- Becca Raffo, a senior at Somers High School, will be exhibiting her photography, drawings, and paintings at the Somers Library during the month of September.
Raffo's will be hosting an art opening at the library in the Program Room on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Raffo has a wide variety of interests and art has always been a major influence in her life. As early as age 6, Raffo began to explore art with acrylic paint.
Her passion has grown and expanded into mediums such as pencil, charcoal and conté crayon. She developed a love for photography in ninth grade when she began to experiment with her family’s Nikon D-SLR camera.
Raffo has evolved her style to use photography, drawing, and painting in combination and individually to create distinctive and expressive images.
She is interested in communicating through art. She hopes to inspire people to feel the emotions of her subjects and view the world from unique perspectives.
Her work includes drawings of animals, still life compositions and variety of photographs ranging from very detailed macro images of flowers and insects to colorful landscapes and emotional wildlife portraits.
Raffo also documented her experiences during a trip to Nicaragua. Her photographs of the people she met and places she saw tell a compelling story of life in rural Nicaragua.
Her project demonstrated that art is a universal language among people of different cultures. Becca connected children in Mount Kisco and Nicaragua through art classes she led in both places. Her project culminated with an event that strengthened the community by bringing people together to paint a mural she designed and which is now permanently installed at the Family Center in Neighbors Link Northern Westchester.
Her outstanding achievement was recognized by the Office of the New York State Attorney General which awarded the “Triple C Award” to Raffo in 2014.
