SOMERS, N.Y. -- Somers' Lasdon Park will soon be the home of a new symbol honoring veterans throughout Westchester County.

On May 18, Armed Forces Day, veterans and local officials will commemorate the ceremony with a dedication of a bronze American bald eagle that will rest outside of the newly-renovated Westchester County Veterans Museum. New York City Fireman Bagpipes will perform at the dedication and military vehicles will be in attendance, according to a press release.

"I'm an Army veteran myself, so this project at Lasdon Park is close to my heart," said Idaho sculptor Mike Curtis in a press release. "I feel honored to have been asked to do this 'Tribute Eagle' for the veterans of Westchester County."

Prior to the sculpture dedication, the 22nd annual Friends of Lasdon Plant Sale will be underway from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to the release. Organized by the Friends of Lasdon, the plant sale benefits projects and programming at the park.

Lasdon Park is located on Route 35 in Somers. Sponsors of the eagle project include American Petroleum and Equipment Company, Carmine Serpe, Hilburn Granite, Pepsico, Pete Montelone Construction, Savatree, Inc., The Friends of Lasdon, The Friends of Westchester County Parks, The Shade Store, West-Fair Electric and the 9th District of the NYS Federated Garden Clubs, according to the release.

Admission to the plant sale and the eagle dedication is free. For more information on the plant sale and to find out about membership in the Friends of Lasdon, contact Nancy Giges at 914-683-5108.
