The unveiling of a commemorative U.S. Postal Service circus stamp and the design of a special cancellation was celebrated with a Circus Stamp Day parade back on April 1, 1966.
The 50th anniversary event will begin with a plaque dedication ceremony at Somers Post Office at noon.
An elephant float from the 1964 World's Fair will then go to the Somers Library, where a reception and presentation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.
Correction: An earlier version of this article omitted that the celebration was organized by Somers Historical Society.
