SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Library will host its July art exhibit, "Captivated by Color," featuring works by Yorktown artist Rose Stock, beginning Wednesday, July 2, and on view until Wednesday, July 30.
This exhibit includes charcoal sketches and oil paintings of landscapes and still life subjects.
An opening reception for the artist will be held in the Somers Library art gallery on Saturday, July 12, at 1 p.m. All are welcome. Stock was born and raised in the Bronx but has lived and worked most of her life in the Hudson Valley. She currently resides in Yorktown.
She has always had an appreciation and love for art since childhood. She worked many years as an administrative assistant and is now focusing on her artistic endeavors.
Stock began taking art classes five years ago at the Katonah Art Center and the Putnam Arts Center with art instructor and local artist Jeanne Demotses. She is also a member of the Putnam Arts Council.
Her work has been included in exhibitions at Katonah Art Center and Putnam Art Center. Subsequent shows were at the DeWindt Gallery, All Mine Jewelers and Club Fit at Jefferson Valley. In 2010, she received Best in Class at the Yorktown Grange Fair.
“I enjoy a sense of creative freedom when I paint," said Stock. "I am intrigued and enchanted by the moods, play of light and beauty of the scenes which captivate me and inspire my paintings.” For viewing times in the program room, call at the library at 232-5717.
