The four sessions will be held Monday, Jan. 5, Jan. 12, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Somers Library and presented by instructor Professor Mark A. Cassata. During this four-session workshop, tinted drawing will help students discover an invaluable skill for better painting

The tinted drawing, originally developed by artists of the Renaissance as an aid to oil painting, was the forerunner of watercolor. Using this method sketches were shaded in with only one or two washes. The purpose of the monochromatic approach was to create a variety of tones and range of light without introducing the inherit problems of color. Art students will find this approach versatile; it can be adapted either as an aid to Realism or to lend the scene a romantic touch.

Participants must bring materials to the first class. A materials list will be available at the library.

Class size is limited and registration is required. There is a $20 donation to the Friends of the Somers Library to offset cost of the class.  Payment will confirm registration. Cancellations must be given by Monday, Dec. 22, for a full refund.

Preference will be given to Somers residents (Somers Library Card required), with non-residents placed on a waiting list until Monday, Dec. 22.  To register, call the library at 914-232-5717.  There is no online registration for this class.
