SOMERS, N.Y. -- Somers Elementary, Middle School and High School students have the opportunity to take part in a visual and performing arts summer camp with multiple sessions throughout the summer.
Students who are entering grades four to nine are eligible to participate with an exception of the last session, which will be held for kindergarten through second grade.
Sessions are as follows:
Monday, July 7, to Friday, July 11.
Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18.
Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25.
Monday, July 28 to Friday, Aug. 1.
Focus of the camps will be:
Drama: Developing acting skills for auditions, monologues, scene work and improvisation. Students will enjoy theater games designed to develop improvisation skills, which will help with scripted scene work and monologues.
Giving Your Best Audition: Develop and strengthen your vocal skills, monologue work and simple dance routines.
Sculpture: Campers will engage in a variety of sculptural mediums from small 3-D objects to larger-than-life papier-maché works. Young artists will learn about form, color, shape and movement using sculpture.
Guitar: Offers beginner musicians the opportunity to explore the different techniques needed to start a successful guitar experience. Students will be given the opportunity to learn basic chord scales and accompaniment techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the electric bass and the elements of drum set playing. No previous experience is required. Instruments will be provided.
Mixed-Media Fun: Students kindergarten to second grade will have an opportunity to create works of art using a variety of art mediums. A week full of art experiences exploring materials such as plaster, paint, clay and more.
Times for the camp are 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. or 1-3:30 p.m. All camps will take place at Somers High School, Middle School or Elementary School.
Cost is $100 for the first class and $90 for each additional class the same week.
