SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Women's Club will be holding its annual blood drive from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Somers Intermediate School, 240 Rt. 202, Somers.
The drive, chaired by Margie Fleishhauer, will collect blood for the New York Blood Center's Hudson Valley Region. Donations will benefit 20 hospitals in the area and could be distributed to as many as 200 hospital from Long Island to Albany.
The drive is collecting "whole blood," meaning those wishing to donate should not have donated within the past 56 days. That figure doubles for those wishing to donate double red cells. A picture ID is required for all wishing to donate.
Anyone with questions about eligibility should call 1-800-688-0900.
Volunteers from the Somers Women's Club will be telephoning past donors to remind them of the ongoing effort to increase the supply of donated blood.
The chair for this year’s drive is Margie Fleischhauer. Volunteers from the Somers Women's Club will be telephoning past donors to remind them of this year's date, and to try to schedule specific times for donors to minimize waiting time.
Anyone wishing to make an appointment should call 1-800-933-2566 or email the Somers Women's Club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
