What To Do In Somers This Weekend

SOMERS, N.Y. – A wine tasting, an artist's reception and a dyeing workshop are among the events planned in the Somers area this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 15

Project Lifesaver Enrollment: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Project Lifesaver is a public safety program designed to use technology to assist those who care for Alzheimer's victims. The event takes place at the Margeliz Center, 334 Route 202, Somers. Call Crystal Johnson at (914) 365-1983 or email cjohnson@hebrewhome.org to register.

Front Street Wine Tasting: 5 to 8 p.m. Wine and Chocolate is the theme for the post-Valentine's Day tasting at Front Street Cellar. The shop is in the old Croton Falls Train Station at 3 Front St. in North Salem.

Somers Newcomers and Neighbors Club: 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The club is celebrating Valentine's Day with champagne, a four-course dinner and dancing at Ceola Manor in Jefferson Valley. Write to sncpresident@yahoo.com for more information.

Saturday, Feb. 16

Dyeing Workshop: 10 a.m. to noon. Make your own hand-dyed scarf (or scarves) using a simple dip technique under the guidance of Mary Parker and Judy Flanders. The workshop is at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.

Artist's Reception: 3 to 7 p.m. A reception to celebrate  the Etch-A-Sketch artwork of Bryan Lee Madden will be held at the Somers Library on Primrose Street. The show runs at the library through the month of February.

Sunday, Feb. 17

Winter Tree Identification: 1 to 3 p.m. With no leaves on the trees, how does the farmer know which are sugar maples, so he can tap them for syrup? Learn how to identify trees from bark, twigs and buds. It’s at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.
