SOMERS, N.Y. – A carnival night, a blood drive and an SAT boot camp are among the weekend's events planned in Somers.
Friday, March 1
Little Wranglers Summer Camp: 10 a.m. Muscoot Farm will hold registration for Westchester resident lottery ticket holders. This summer program is for children 4 and 5 years old. The dates are July 1-5, with no camp on July 4. For further information, call (914) 864-7286.
Unstoppable Women: 10:30 a.m. If you could make one change to improve your life, what would it be? Discuss Cynthia Kersey’s “Unstoppable Women: Achieve Any Breakthrough Goal in 30 Days,” in a series of meetings, every Friday for the entire month of March. Register on the library website. It’s at the Somers Library, 82 Primrose St., Somers.
Read Across America: 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Celebrate the joy of reading at the Somers Library with "The Cat in the Hat." Seuss Bingo and a craft session are included and no registration is necessary. It’s for children from 4 to 8 years old. The library is at 82 Primrose St. Somers.
Family Carnival Night & Ice Cream Social: 6:30 to 9 p.m. On offer are carnival games with plenty of prizes for the kids and ice cream for everybody. Pizza and other stacks will also be available. Admission is $15 per child, $5 per adult and $45 per family. It’s sponsored by the Somers Education Foundation and takes place at the Primrose School Gym, 110 Primrose St., Lincolndale. (Note: no student drop-offs.)
Art Against Abuse: 7 p.m. The annual art show, exhibiting artwork by North Salem High School students, focuses on healthy and unhealthy dating relationships. Sponsored by the Elizabeth G. Butler Angel Foundation, it’s at the Hammond Museum, 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.
Saturday, March 2
SAT Boot Camp: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn the ins and outs and hows and how-nots of getting a great score on the SAT. This two-day course, run by Catalyst Prep, will be given at Somers High School, 120 Primrose St., Lincolndale. The fee is $165 for the entire course, including materials. Somers Women’s Club Blood Drive: 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The New York Blood Center will collect donations of whole blood, to be distributed to local hospitals. Donors under 17 need parental consent and a photo ID must be presented on collection day. For further information, go to the website or email swcpresident@yahoo.com. The drive takes place at Somers Intermediate School, 240 Route 202.
Model Magic: 10:15 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 to noon. The first session, for children age 5 and up, concentrates on making model magic clay snowmen. In the second session, children in grades two through five will make a wearable model magic clay heart. Each session is limited to 10 children. Register on the library website. Maple Sugaring: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Join the gang in the sugar house at Muscoot, learning about the history and process of making maple syrup (weather permitting). Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, south of Route 35 in Somers.
