What To Do In Somers This Weekend

SOMERS, N.Y. – Autumn festivals and the Veterans Day Parade are among the events planned in the Somers area this weekend.

Friday, Nov. 9

Front Street Wine Tasting: 5 to 8 p.m. Wines for Thanksgiving and Fall will be featured at the Front Street Cellar at the Croton Falls Train Station.

Jazz at Mamma Rosa: 7 to 9 p.m. Northern Westchester’s own professional jazz entertainer, Patricia Adams, will make one of her rare local appearances, accompanied by Steve Wright on piano. It’s at Mamma Rosa Ristorante, Route 100, Somers.

Saturday, Nov. 10

Medicare Seminar: 11 a.m. Find out which is the right Medicare Plan for you and how to select a drug plan. The talk is presented by the Medicare Rights Center. Register online at  or call 914-232-5717. It’s at the Somers Library, 80 Primrose St., Somers.

Sunday, Nov. 11

Veterans Day Parade: 10:45 a.m. Paraders will gather at the Somers Town House and proceed to Ivandell Cemetery for an 11 a.m. ceremony to commemorate the World War I armistice and the homecoming of all military veterans. Refreshments follow at the Somers Town House. The Town House is at 335 Route 202 (Elephant Hotel) in Somers. Ivandell Cemetery is north of the Town House on Route 202.

2nd Annual One Love Flag Football Game: 12 to 2 p.m.  The game, open to all third-graders, will be played in honor seven-year-old Madison Bookall who died tragically in a car accident last year.  The fee is $10. It takes place on the Somers High School turf, 120 Primrose St., Lincolndale.

Turkey Treasures: 1 to 3 p.m. The Muscoot 4-H Gang will introduce you to the turkeys at Muscoot and tell you all about them. It’s at Muscoot Farm, Route 100 (1 ½ miles south of Route 35), Somers.

New Age Brass Quintet: 2 p.m. A group of young brass musicians who have already played to audiences around the world will perform in Somers. There is no charge. It’s at the Somers Library, 80 Primrose St., Somers.

Winter Protection for Gardens: 2 to 3 p.m. Learn about anti-desiccants, the use of burlap, cold frames and mulch to give your outdoor plants added protection this winter. It’s at Lasdon Park and Arboretum, Route 35, Somers.

20th Annual Harvest Home: 5 p.m. The Croton Falls Community Church celebrates autumn with a creative worship service, followed by a complete turkey dinner. There is no cost and everyone is invited. There will also be a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. The Croton Falls Community Church is at 628 Route 22 in Croton Falls.

Monday, Nov. 12

Meeting of the League of Women Voters: 10:30 a.m. Dr. Christopher Malone will speak about the political process and the election results. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge. It’s at the Somers Library, 80 Primrose St., Somers. NOTE: The Library is closed to patrons.

Veterans Day Closings: Somers schools and government offices will be closed for the holiday.
