Animal Florals Garner Gasps, Awards at Somers Lasdon

SOMERS, N.Y. – Lasdon Park’s weekend extravaganza, “It’s a Zoo,” comprising floral displays based on animal themes, was a huge success with both the judges and the visitors.

Dee Aspros, a member of the Pound Ridge and New Horizons Garden Clubs, garnered three awards – Design Excellence, Table Artistry and Designer’s Choice – for three different floral compositions. 

The Horticulture Division’s top award went to Charlotte Spiers for her herb planter, while Evelyn Tapani Rosenthal won two Miniature Design awards and Denise Mayne won the Educational Award. All three are members of Bedford’s Hopp Ground Garden Club. 

Charlotte Wright of Chappaqua and Nina and Lanna Plateroti of Mahopac won awards in the Youth Category.

Other awards winners in the Design Division were Barbara Schaefer (Mahopac and New Horizons Garden Clubs), Gwen Court (Greenburgh’s Parkway Homes Garden Club), Maggie Limburg (Armonk’s Green Acres Garden Club), and Judy Kennedy and Connie Marchetti, both of the Pound Ridge Garden Club.

Additional awards for Horticulture were presented to Sheila McSpedon (Hopp Ground), Terry Marchica (Briarcliff Garden Club), Helen Lindsay and Dot Leslie, both of the Peekskill Garden Club and Virginia Todar, Connie Marchetti and Mary Miranda of the Pound Ridge Garden Club.
