Dr. Dennis Charney, the dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a Chappaqua resident, spent five days in the hospital after being struck by buckshot outside of Lange’s Little Store Deli in Chappaqua in a premeditated attack last August.
After studying resilience for 25 years, Dr. Charney is quoted in a New York Times article as saying now was his time to be resilient.
In his co-authored book “Resilience: The Science of Mastering Life’s Greatest Challenges," he explains how it's never too late once you’ve been traumatized to build the capability to move forward.
Among his words of advice: Rewrite your life story. Post-shooting, Dr. Charney said he knew his life was forever changed and that he could reframe the situation to focus on the opportunities, rather than the setbacks.
