Westchester Gourmet Shops Make Thanksgiving Easy With Feasts To Go

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Let’s be honest: As much as many of us enjoy home cooked meals, especially come Thanksgiving, not all of us enjoy preparing it.

ACME Markets, Yorktown Heights, Thornwood, Mohegan Lake, Goldens Bridge, Bronxville, Rye Brook, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Greenburgh, Shrub Oak: ACME offers everything from cooked meals to uncooked turkeys, giving folks the option of either cooking for themselves or letting someone else do the work. Also worth noting: ACME offers a free Jennie-O frozen basted turkey with a $100 single spend with coupon now  through Thursday, Nov. 17. In addition, you'l find other fresh and frozen turkey options as well as freshly cooked rotisserie chickens. A & S Fine Foods, Croton, Port Chester: Free-range organic turkey ($4.99 a pound) is available here as is prime rib, stuffed pork loin and fresh free range turkey. Sides include garlic mashed potatoes, candied carrots, baked clams and more. Order by Sunday, Nov. 20. Order: 171 S. Balducci's, Scarsdale: Whole turkeys from Plainville Farms are antibiotic-free, fed an all-natural vegetarian diet and raised in an animal friendly environment. Customers can choose from two ready-to-cook turkey kits that include a fully cleaned, raw turkey, roasting pan, mirepoix, herbs, seasoning pack and cooking instructions. Starters and sides include an array of options from traditional herb stuffing and roasted butternut squash soup to pumpkin risotto and parmesan crusted cauliflower. And, of course, there are pies: pumpkin, apple and pecan as well as a new Salem Pumpkin Tea Bread. Order: 15 Palmer Ave., (914) 722-0200.

Ben's Kosher Deli, Scarsdale: Looking for a kosher option? Ben's offers kosher feasts to go with a variety of side options. Order by Sunday, Nov. 20.  The deli is also open Thanksgiving day should you prefer to dine in. Order: 718 Central Park Ave, Scarsdale, (914) 468-2367.

Cole’s Market, Montrose: This homey gourmet food store -- a third generation run shop -- has all your Thanksgiving needs -- 10 to 30 pound turkeys (cooked or uncooked; they recommend uncooked) as well as sides like stuffed mushrooms, gravy, pies and all kinds of potatoes and veggies. DeCicco Family Markets, Cross River, Jefferson Valley, Scarsdale, Katonah: Plainville Farms turkey  -- antibiotic-free and all natural. -- are on the menu here as are full meal packages and a la carte sides such as corn or carrot souffle, sausage stuffing, candied yams and roasted brussel sprouts. Orders taken until Monday, Nov. 21. Geordane’s, Irvington: Get your fresh Bell & Evans and organic turkeys while supplies last. There are also an array of sides to choose from such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, roasted sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and string beans. Order: 61 Main St., Irvington, (914) 591-6911.

SF Express, Bronxville: Not in the mood for turkey? You'll find seared tenderloin of beef, roasted wild salmon, roasted Cornish hen, mustard glazed spiral ham and winter squash ravioli among the options here. There is, of course, also turkey along with other seasonal favorites like Fall squash soup with apples and pears, maple glazed baby carrots, triple cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes au gratin. Order: 82 Kraft Ave., Bronxville, (914) 337-2735.

Plates, Larchmont: Vermont Organic birds -- raw or cooked -- are offered to go as well as entire cooked Thanksgiving feasts. People can also pick and choose from the menu (partial feasts) and turkeys can be brined overnight in a herb and spice brine -- or not. Order by Thursday, Nov. 17, After that, call for availability. Standing Room Only, Scarsdale: The extensive Thanksgiving menu includes 22 pound fresh, natural turkey (uncooked) as well as cooked herb-roasted turkey breast. Other options include roast salmon in a crispy butternut squash crust, cornbread stuffing, steamed green beans, cranberry orange relish and more. Order: 1491 Weaver St., Scarsdale, (914) 472-3002.

Susan Lawrence Gourmet Foods, Chappaqua: The choices are practically endless at Susan Lawrence where you may just want everything. A cornucopia of hors d'oeuvres are available -- think truffle mushroom brie torte, butternut squash stuffed with harvest lobster remoulade or a Thanksgiving cheese platter -- as well as a large array of entrees and desserts. The Rye Country Store, Rye: Anything and everything you can think of are offered at this popular gourmet food store where turkeys cooked or uncooked (most get them cooked) often fly out the door come Thanksgiving. The store also offers 10 different kinds of stuffing, three kinds of cranberry, several sweet potato mixtures along with regular potato options and, of course,  pies galore: think apple, pecan, pumpkin, blueberry and more. Turco's, Yorktown Heights: This superstore of food offers turkeys raw or cooked -- as well as a variety of turkey options --- think whole roast turkey, turkey breasts, stuffed turkey breast -- as well as a large number of you name it/they have it here sides, i.e. chestnut stuffing, apricot stuffing, candied yam with marshmallows, roasted sweet potatoes,  mashed potatoes and honey carrots. Order: 380 Downing Dr, (914) 243-9100.

The Outpost, Bedford: It may be too late to order your Heritage turkey -- they come direct from John Boys farm in Cambridge, N.Y. (though you can call and try)  -- but you can still get delicious farm to table sides like sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. All are subject to the farm's offerings closer to the date. The Outpost i is the only 100 percent organic and non-GMO store in the area that is farmer owned and farmer supplied.
