PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - The community is rallying together in support of a Putnam County firefighter who suffered grievous injuries in a car accident and lost the use of his legs.

Firefighter Joey Hyatt, a member of the North Highlands Fire Department in Cold Spring was in an accident in November 2016, where he suffered multiple neck fractures and is now a C5-C6 complete SCI quadriplegic.

In response, a GoFundMe fundraising campaign was started in an effort to send him to a Project Walk facility, a program that is developing new research using stem cells and nerve transplants.

Recently, Firehouse Kitchen , a popular television program, featured Hyatt’s story and lent its support for his campaign to get to the Project Walk facility in Boston. As of July 28, nearly $13,000 of the stated $25,000 goal had been raised.

Those interested in donating to the GoFundMe campaign can do so here.
