SOMERS, N.Y. Ten members of the Tzofim Friendship Caravan visited Mahopac's Temple Beth Shalom on June 6 to present a special musical production centered on life in Israel.
Tzofim is a non-political and non-sectarian coed youth organization, similar to the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts and is a member of the international scouting movement.
The Friendship Caravan consists of high school senior scouts who have auditioned in depth to be chosen as emissaries of Israel, traveling across the United States and presenting their musical performance at camps, community centers, churches, senior homes and schools.
Requirements for joining the Caravan are rigid. Delegates must be fluent in English, be well-versed in Israeli and Jewish history and have a strong desire to share their passion for their country with others. And they must be able to communicate all of this through their talents for song and dance.
The 10 visiting Tzofim members were hosted by Somers families.
