SOMERS, N.Y. The Burger Joint in Mount Kisco will be donating a portion of its Friday, June 15 dinner receipts to the newly formed Lets Play It Forward.
LPIF got its start in February when a group of longtime middle and high school friends were cleaning out the family garages. They wondered what to do with all the outgrown sports equipment, still in good condition. So they came up with the idea of passing it on to needy kids. The friends named their organization Lets Play It Forward, set up a website and applied for 501c3 tax-exemption designation.
So far, the organization has collected and donated more than 2,100 pieces of gently used sports equipment to local children's organizations. The goal of Friday nights fund-raiser is to raise the money to build a storage shed the accommodate the growing accumulation.
LPIF has already donated materials to the Boys and Girls Club of Mout Vernon, Bridgeport Community Tennis, Ossining Community Tennis, the West Side Soccer League in Harlem, St. Christophers in Dobbs Ferry, and more.
LPIF has also teamed up with the STAT Club (Students Taking Action Today) of Somers High School and has forwarded 43 pairs of sneakers to the La Carpio Nicaraguan Refugee Camp in Costa Rica.
The Burger Joint is at 20 South Moger Avenue, Mount Kisco. Orders placed between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday will qualify for the LPIF donation.
