Shulman's collection of watercolor paintings and drawings will be on display throughout August at the Somers Library. The Alabama-native's work has been inspired by the natural world from her travels and has been mixed with her imagination. Shulman will be present for the artist's reception from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the library.

"This library is phenomenal and they do so many wonderful programs and I couldn't be more thrilled to be showing my work there," Shulman said. "It is really an honor to have my work become the August exhibit."

Shulman said a majority of her work has been of landscapes because she's "been stuck in a forest" for most of her life.

"A lot of people refer to my work as having a fairy tale quality and I try to capture my childhood," Shulman said. "I would describe my work as very organic and realistic with an imaginative touch."

Shulman worked many years as a graphic artist while pursuing her love of painting and she attended art classes at the New School in Manhattan along with the Art Student's League and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The exhibit includes watercolor paintings of landscapes, figures, still life subjects and drawings in multimedia.

Residents are asked to contact the library at Route 139 & Reis Park in Somers by calling (914) 232-5717 for viewing times in the Program Room.
