To receive the award, Sweig did the following:
- Digitized nearly 300 cemetery records for the Mount Zion Episcopal Church over a two-year period.
- Created an interactive web page accessible from Somers Historical Society's website, www.somershistoricalsoc.org, with links to www.findagrave.com.
- Designed and installed signage at the cemetery directing visitors to the online sources.
Mount Zion Episcopal Church is a National Register of Historic Places site, as well as a designated town of Somers Historic Site Society, said a news release.
"Pam's work in creating this database for Mount Zion Church with accompanying signage design is not only a long-standing project fulfilling Somers Historical Society's missions of sharing and preserving historical information, but it serves as a foundation for others to build upon in the future," said Grace Zimmerman, vice president and intern coordinator.
Sweig took the original documentation of Mount Zion Cemetery, which was accomplished by an Eagle Scout in the late 1990s, and made it accessible to audiences of the 21st century, said Zimmermann.
The digitization project would not have been done "in the foreseeable future" without Sweig's help, Zimmermann added.
