SOMERS, N.Y. – Boosters of the Somers Dog Park have raised $2,000 more than their $20,000 goal, only to discover that the cost is now estimated at $30,000.
The park is planned for an unused tract next to the Somers Highway Department on Route 100. The land would be provided by the town. The construction estimate has increased because New York State raised the prevailing wage law after the original estimate had been made.
Local dog lovers have sought financial support from merchants and businesses and have held fundraisers for the last year. Now the drive resumes as another Somers business – the Pinnacle Restaurant at the Somers Pointe Country Club – offers to donate 15 percent of your lunch or dinner bill on Saturday, Aug. 18 and Tuesday, Aug. 21, to the Dog Park coffers.
Lunch at the Pinnacle features a broad assortment of salads, wraps and sandwiches, dishes from the grill, including a choice of Black Angus beef burgers or veggie burgers, and a quartet of flatbread pizzas.
The dinner menu is similar, but adds another half-dozen appetizers as well as entrees like strip steak, rack of lamb, grilled salmon, pork osso bucco and several pasta dishes.
The lovely setting is the perfect spot to enjoy a summer meal while you help Somers establish a fun park for its canine population. The Pinnacle's address is 1000 West Hill Drive. The phone number is (914) 276-3300. Click here to print a 15 percent donation coupon.
