Somers High School Grad Wins Riding Championship

SOMERS, N.Y. -- Somers High School graduate Lindsay Baker, a junior at Savannah College of Art and Design, won the 2014 National Championship Rider in the Novice Division at the American National Riding Commission National Championships.

Baker helped SCAD finish in first place at the ANRC National Championships, which took place in April in Sweet Briar, Va. Baker was declared the overall novice division national champion. The title is the second Baker has won in the last two years; she won the 2013 IHSA national champion title.

The ANRC is a four-phase postseason competition that takes place after the regular season's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association shows, according to a release. In the ANRC event, the coaches select their best horse- and-rider combinations to take part in the once-a-year event.

The ANRC was the last competition before the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships and is the last prestigious event that precedes the quest for another national championship for the SCAD Bees at the IHSA Nationals in Harrisburg, Pa. 

"Baker is an equestrian studies major at SCAD and is part of a tradition that has now won nine ANRC National Championships," SCAD representatives said. "Congratulations to Lindsay Baker for her ANRC riding title."
