I am sick of the trash everywhere. Litter begets more litter. We need to instill in the people of this town, young and old, that littering is disrespectful, dangerous, unsightly, and environmentally hazardous. I have seen grown adults throw stuff out of their cars onto parking lots, and I have seen teenagers throw fast food bags and bottles out of their cars as they drive. I have seen all sorts of service people throw countless water bottles on the road as they drive to and from our houses.
I have been picking up trash on Plum Brook Road for years. In my experience, the litterers in this town are primarily teens and service people who work in Somers. OUR teens, and OUR service people. We are all responsible for this mess. And I actually feel that most elderly people here would be more than happy to clean up a bit of litter. I have seen many of them doing all kinds of able-bodied work here in town, so don't rule out that they might be willing to help clean up.
The biggest problem is a lack of concern on the part of our town officials, particularly the Town Board. Last March I contacted all of them and only heard back from Harry Bolton and Richard Clinchy. We need to ask the board to put this issue on the Agenda so that it can be properly discussed at a meeting. Has anyone contacted them about this? If not, I am happy to. Please, take photos and forward them to the Board. http://www.somersny.com/Pages/SomersNY_BComm/TownBoard/index .
