SOMERS, N.Y. – The first day of spring 2013 is slated for March 20, but Somers will be switching to daylight savings time in less than one week.
The maple trees are producing sap and Redwing blackbirds, which fly south for the winter, already have been seen in the area.
The winter’s ice is melting day by day and the first snowdrops are poking out of the ground. When you see earthworms, frogs or leaf buds the size of a quarter, spring is here, no matter what the calendar says.
Watch for pussy willow buds, forsythia, vinca blooms and eager daffodils. Keep your eyes peeled for returning barn swallows. When you find a early sign of spring in your backyard, send your photos to kpacchiana@dailyvoice.com.
