Wanted: Information on Historical Harley Figure

SOMERS, N.Y. - William B. Johnson was the proprietor of the first African-American Harley Motorcycle dealership in the United States. His shop was in Somers just down the street from the Elephant Hotel.

In conjunction with Black History Month (February 2012), an archivist from the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, WI, will visit the Somers Historical Society in search of information about Johnson.

Anyone with photographs, news clippings or general recollections of Johnson is urged to contact the Historical Society and, if at all possible, stop by on Friday, December 9, between 5 and 7 p.m. to meet with the archivist. Please call 914-277-4977 or email president@somershistoricalsoc.org.
