SOMERS, N.Y. – More than 700 Somers customers remained without power Tuesday morning and it could be a few more days before all power is restored to the area.
An estimated 706 out of 9,088 customers in Somers were without power at 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to New York State Energy and Gas reports.
More than 7,200 customers out of 32,524 total customers served by NYSEG in Westchester were out of power as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.
NYSEG emergency planners said they were preparing for the possible impact of a developing storm that is expected to arrive Wednesday night.
“We are closely monitoring forecasts and ensuring that we have resources and materials in place to deal with any further damage to our facilities,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E, in a press release. “One of our concerns is that limbs and entire trees that survived the punishment of Hurricane Sandy will be weakened to the point that they are not able to withstand the next storm. More falling limbs and trees could impact our system and cause additional outages.”
In the meantime, NYSEG’s 3,400-member power restoration team has restored service to 62,022 of the 75,738 customers who lost power in the company’s Brewster Division (parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties) and 27,126 of the 28,772 customers who lost power in the company’s Liberty Division (parts of Sullivan, Orange, Delaware and Ulster counties) as a result of damage from Hurricane Sandy, according to a release.
“We will continue to add to our team and will be on the job until all power is restored,” Lynch said in the release.
