Actor Thomas Mikal Ford, 52, Westchester Native

Tommy Mikal Ford, a Yonkers native, died Wednesday. He was 52.

An actor, he was born June 15, 1962 and was best known for the Fox comedy “Martin” and UPN sitcom “The Parkers.” 

Ford was hospitalized in Atlanta after an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen. He was taken off life support about 5 p.m., Jay Mathis PR, said on Twitter. He checked into the hospital on Sunday after complications following knee replacement surgery two weeks ago. 

Always the comic, he shared his surgery journey and subsequent complications on Instagram.

He died surrounded by family and friends, his rep said on Twitter.

His major roles in television included,

  • "Let's Stay Together" (2011) as the Reverend
  • "Who's Got Jokes?" (2006–2008) as Pope of Comedy
  • "The Parkers" (1999–2001) as Mel Parker
  • "The Jamie Foxx Show" (1999) as Marcus
  • "New York Undercover" (1998–1999) as Lt. Malcolm Barker
  • "Martin" (1992–1997) as Tommy Strawn
  • "A Different World" (1989) as Lamar

Martin was also the author of a children’s book series "I Am Beautiful," meant to inspire youth and was used as an educational tool, according to his website. 

He also wrote a book package “I’ve Got a Job,” meant to inspire troubled youth. 

He toured as a motivational speaker as well, also intending to inspire young people. 

He is survived by his wife, Gina Sasso. They married in 1997.
