Another Protest at Congresswoman Hayworth's Office

SOMERS, N.Y. - Local residents gathered at Rep. Nan Hayworth's Somers office earlier this week to protest budget cuts to “vital programs that many Americans depend on.”

The protest was organized by MoveOn.org, as part of The American Dream Movement. It is an anti-right wing organization, opposed to the Republican and Tea Party’s stand on taxes on large corporations and wealthy citizens.

Brooke McGowen, the local MoveOn organizer said, “We’re not going to put up with sacrificing what we believe in, which is social equality and a chance for everyone, just so a few corporations can get billions of dollars in tax giveaways.”

Aileen Gluck, 84, of Mt. Kisco said, “I’ve listened to Hayworth’s conference calls and she said, ‘If you cut government taxes you will help enhance the economy and create more jobs.’ I am distressed at her lack of knowledge about economics. If you know American history you know this will not help.”

Gluck is a retired American history and government teacher from Briarcliff Manor.

Nathaniel Sillin, speaking for Congresswoman Hayworth, called MoveOn.org an “extreme national liberal political organization” and said, “Contrary to inaccurate and misleading claims, Rep. Hayworth has made the health and well being of her constituents and community one of her highest priorities as both a Member of Congress and as a physician for the last two decades. The Congresswoman is fighting to improve access to healthcare for seniors by protecting Medicare and preserving the program for future generations.”
