The legislation would have afforded veterans of "peacetime" the same buyback options as those who served during wartime.

"The legislature came together in a bipartisan fashion and helped our veterans, and the governor doesn't seem to care," Katz said in a statement. "What we need to do is overturn this veto this year. I know this bill has the bipartisan support of the entire legislature, and I'll lead the charge of ensuring this has the votes to pass a second time. These veterans served their country with honor and distinction, just like their counterparts. They deserve the same respect and admiration, and the governor should be better than denying them that."
