Dozens of club supporters gathered to celebrate the club’s continued success and began planning for the June gala.
This year, the club will honor outgoing Executive Director Brian Skanes as “Humanitarian of the Year.” After 21 years of service, Skanes will be stepping down from his post at the BGCNW Friday, April 10 to become director of major metro services for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The gala also will honor TD Bank as the John Beach Award recipient in recognition of its generous financial support of the club’s youth programming and services.
Money raised from the annual gala, which will be Saturday, June 6 at the Hilton Westchester, make up one-third of the club’s yearly fundraising efforts, said Chief Development Officer Alyzza Ozer.
This year, the club hopes to raise $500,000 to ensure BGCNW continues serving its 1,700 members through programs promoting healthy lifestyles, academic success and citizenship.
Annually, the club provides 60,000 meals and snacks to its members, enables 100 percent of its at-risk high school seniors to graduate on time and has encouraged a sense of responsibility to give back to the community that is felt by more than 80 percent of its members.
