Lucas, who called Colley's death a "tragedy," recalled that the police presence was boosted in its aftermath because residents were scared.
“I hope and pray for the family every time I think about it,” said Lucus, who is not sure if the case will be solved.
The unsolved death of Colley was one of several issues that Lucas touched upon in a sit-down interview with Daily Voice for its "Leaders" series, a video segment that entails conversations with local stakeholders.
Lucas also touched upon the ongoing drug-addiction epidemic that is affecting communities across the Hudson Valley. Last year, the supervisor noted, four people who grew up in North Salem (but lived elsewhere in the region) died from drug-related circumstances. The people who died were adults in their 20's and 30's, Lucas said.
The supervisor discussed local efforts to combat drug addiction. For example, Lucas recalled how the North Salem Central School District has held two assemblies to address the issue with guest panels; the gatherings had turnout of several hundred people, he noted.
Additionally, Lucas praised the school district for doing drug searches of its property with dogs.
“The school's gotten ahead of it,” the supervisor said.
