PURDYS, N.Y. -- A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a rape that occurred on June 3 in Mount Kisco, as well as an attempted rape on Aug. 21 at the Metro-North railroad station parking lot in Purdys.
MTA Police and Westchester County Police arrested Ronal Danillo Sandoval-Campos of Purdys, according to spokesmen for both law enforcement agencies.
Sandoval-Campos, 24, was charged with first-degree rape, a felony, in connection with the June rape in the woman's Mount Kisco home, according to Kieran O'Leary, a county police spokesman.
Sandoval-Campos is accused of entering a home in Mount Kisco at 12:10 a.m. on June 3 and sexually assaulting a woman there.
DNA evidence collected in both incidents links Sandoval-Campos to both crimes, O'Leary said on Monday.
A 19-year-old woman exited a train at Purdys at 7:56 a.m. on Aug. 21 and was engaged in conversation on the railroad platform with a man who then followed her through the station parking lot onto a dirt path, where he attempted to sexually assault her, according to the MTA. The victim successfully fought her attacker off after a witness intervened, and the two then called 911.
MTA Police and State Police responded, canvassed the area and MTA Police collected evidence including a baseball cap that the suspect had left behind, according to Aaron Donovan, deputy director for communications with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
On the evening of Aug. 21 at a nearby house, State Police Investigators and MTA Police detectives interviewed a man who matched the description of the attacker and MTA Police obtained a DNA sample from the man, Donovan said.
Information provided by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office of a positive DNA match in the CODIS system led MTA Police detectives to work in cooperation with Westchester County Police detectives with a separate, smiliar sexual assault incident.
Detectives from both agencies interviewed the man, and arrested him on Sept. 9 in connection with the Purdys' incident as well as the earlier incident that had taken place in Mount Kisco, Donovan said on Monday.
The suspect was arraigned for both cases in Mount Kisco Court, with bail set at $250,000 for each case. He is being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s office
