DWI Arrest on Mahopac Avenue

SOMERS, N.Y. - Shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, New York State Police, Somers barracks, stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Mahopac Avenue in Somers.

A subsequent police investigation showed that the driver, 45-year-old James Santoiemma of Mahopac, was intoxicated. Santoiemma was arrested and charged with DWI. He refused chemical testing and was also issued uniform traffic tickets. He is scheduled to appear in Somers Town Court on January 23 at 5:30 p.m.

Drivers and traffic along Mahopac Avenue attracted great attention after 7-year-old Madison Bookall was killed in an auto accident in November. Concerned residents petitioned the Town Board to address unsafe conditions. At the last board meeting, Supervisor Murphy announced a plan to make several improvements and promised they would be implemented in the near future.
