Emergency Shelter to Open in Somers

SOMERS, N.Y. - Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy has released the following announcement:

The Town of Somers will activate an emergency shelter at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and the shelter will remain open as long as necessary. 

The shelter is located at the Activity Center in Heritage Hills and is open to all Somers residents.  The address is 8 Heritage Hills Drive (but if you are using a GPS put in #1 Heritage Hills Drive).  

The generator at the shelter operates on diesel fuel. There is a two-and-a-half day supply of fuel already in the tank. The town has access to unlimited additional fuel should it become necessary.

The shelter is equipped with cots and essential toiletries but it is advisable to bring to any shelter the following items:A first aid kit; medicines and prescriptions; baby food and diapers; games and books; toiletries; a battery powered radio; a cell phone; flashlights with extra batteries; a blanket or sleeping bag for each person; personal identification; copies of key papers, such as insurance policies; and

  • available cash and credit cards.
