After an extensive planning and review process, The Playhouse has awarded contracts to the following:

  • R C Torre Construction Corporation, Bedford Hills - Construction and Build Out
  • Darren Mercer, Katonah, NY - Architect
  • Danielle Galland Design, NYC - Interior Design
  • John Burkhardt, Big Show Consultant and Management, NYC - Owner's Representative/Project Manager

“We are very excited to get our shovels in the ground," said Chairman Sarah Long. "Many dedicated people have put in an enormous amount of time and effort to get us here.

"There have been challenges along the way, and I suspect there will be more to come. However, after each hurdle, we landed on a clearer path, with a more thoughtful design that is less expensive to build and will be more efficient to run. We can now focus on the exciting tasks: programming and our membership."

The Bedford Playhouse will be a vibrant, not-for-profit art house cinema and cultural resource for Bedford and the surrounding communities. The facility will offer three state-of-the-art theaters: the large theater (180 seats) will be used for celebrity events and programming in addition to screenings; one smaller theater (40 seats) will host intimate events and screenings, and one flex-use theater space, The David Worby Theater, will feature removable furniture, which will allow for a range of public and private events, performances, art exhibits and more.

In addition to the theaters, the Playhouse will offer a café, serving light meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The café will also have a full bar. The Playhouse Café will serve as an inviting, welcoming gathering place for food, drink, work, quiet time, and conversation.

"This is a long-awaited move for us, the culmination of a lot of effort and teamwork over the past two and a half years," added John Farr, Board President and Founder. "It reflects our Board's belief that enough support exists in the community to allow us to open the new Playhouse and thrive once we do. We are very excited to be moving ahead."
