Entergy, which maintains the power plant, and Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2 had been in tense negotiations over the latest collective bargaining agreement for the nearly 400 union workers at Indian Point. The two reached an agreement early Saturday morning, Entergy announced in a press release.

“The agreement reached today allows all our employees to focus on their continuing mission to safely provide affordable and reliable power to millions of New Yorkers every day,” John Ventosa, site vice president, said in a press release early Saturday morning. “This agreement is one that benefits all parties – our workers, the union, and Entergy.”

The union’s previous contract with Entergy expired Friday at midnight. Both parties agreed to work with a federal mediator to reach a new deal earlier this week.

The union’s full membership will need to vote to finalize the contract before it becomes official. Entergy expects the vote to go through in the next few weeks.
