WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – A federal judge ordered on Friday, Sept. 19, that Westchester businessman Selim "Sam" Zherka must stay in jail until he stands trial, reports LoHud.com .

Prosecutors said Zherka, a Somers resident, has a "very strong incentive to flee" with financial resources abroad. On a bank loan application, Zherka claimed his net worth is $61.8 million, excluding foreign assets, credit and $2.5 million in personal items and other property according to the report.

As previously reported by The Daily Voice , the publisher of The Westchester Guardian was indicted on Sept. 18 for obtaining more than $146 million in loans from three banks for the purchase and/or refinancing of apartment house complexes in New England, Tennessee, New Jersey and New York, but lied about the prices and down payments.
