Nilija Hall, 40, of Archer Road, is charged with two felony counts of first-degree criminal contempt; four misdemeanors:  criminal obstruction of breathing, unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree menacing; and a violation count of second-degree harassment, the sheriff's office said.

The charges stemmed from an alleged Jan. 28 incident. Hall, in violation of a Putnam County Family Court-issued order of protection, allegedly showed up at his estranged wife’s residence and choked her to the point where she could not breathe, according to the sheriff's office.

Hall also allegedly threatened to attack his wife with a broom handle and said he intended to kill her, according to the sheriff's office.

Hall is being held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment.
