The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Putnam residents regarding the residency of 42-year-old Alberto Torres, who has moved from Carmel to a residence on Sodom Road in Brewster.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Torres as a Level 2 threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Torres had sexual intercourse and contact with his victim in 1999, threatening her and choking her in the process. He was convicted of first-degree rape later that year and sentenced to 18 years in state prison. Conditions of his supervision forbid him from being near alcohol and upon his release from prison, he is subject to five years of supervision. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
