SOMERS, N.Y. — The Friends of the Somers Library announced that the group's yearly membership drive is underway.
The nonprofit organization was founded in 1979 as a way to help the library become a cultural and informational center for local residents.
The town's budget typically doesn't include money for programs, and that's where the bulk of the Friends' money goes toward.
Funds are raised by membership dues (the main source of income and tax-deductible), donations, raffles and book sales.
The organization is incorporated by the Regents of the State University of New York and recognized as tax-exempt.
Membership forms are available at the library, or checks can be sent to Friends of the Somers Library, P.O. Box 443, Somers, NY 10589. Include your name, address and email address, which will assure timely notice of events.
Annual dues are $20 ($50 at the Patron level, $100 for Sponsor level).
