SOMERS - On Saturday the NYS Police arrested David C. Totten, 22, of Somers. The arrest grew out of an investigation into an incident at Tottens residence on Friday evening, when he allegedly assaulted and attempted to rape a 17-year-old woman.
He is charged with Attempted Rape in the First Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree. Both are felony charges.
Totten was arraigned in Somers Town Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail. He will return to court on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
In other news, the New York State Police were called to the Baldwin Place Stop and Shop on Friday to investigate a suspicious person. Gilbert A. Perez, 17, of Peekskill, had been observed walking around the store with a box cutter.
Just as police arrived at the scene, employees of the Stop and Shop were chasing after the young man, who had allegedly stolen a womans purse moments before and was running away.
A brief police hunt ensued. Perez was found hiding in the bathroom of a nearby beauty salon. He was arrested on the charge of Grand Larceny 4th Degree and additionally charged with Possession of Burglars Tools. He is scheduled to appear in Somers Town Court on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
