SOMERS, N.Y. - New York State Police have been patrolling local roads for "Speed Week."
On Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., police focused their Speed Enforcement Initiative on drivers along Route 100 in Somers. A total of 47 tickets were issued, the majority of them for speeding. The intense program began Monday and will continue until Sunday. The purpose is to reduce highway injuries and deaths caused by incautious driving.
